Savvy shoppers keen to save a few dollars or find a unique treasure have flocked to newly reopened tip shop – The Bowerbird.

Already garnering significant community support since opening its doors last month, the facility has become a must-visit on the reuse and recycle scene in Geraldton.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn was pleased to see so much positive sentiment from the community.

“The Bowerbird has diverted almost 4,000 items from landfill since reopening to the public on 1 September 2021,” he said.

“Over 1,369 customers have passed through the doors and the positive feedback has blown the team away.”

The breakdown of popular items saved from entering landfill include 531 books, 575 craft items, 164 DVD’s and 173 toys.

“Money raised through sales of products goes straight back in to keeping the lights on at The Bowerbird,” Mayor Van Styn continued.

“Diverting waste from landfill is The Bowerbird’s number one priority, which equals savings to ratepayers in the form if increasing cell longevity.

“Quirky and unique products are coming through the store every day, so I encourage anyone who hasn’t paid The Bowerbird a visit yet to get out there and check it out!”

The Bowerbird is open for both drop off and browsing from 9am until 3pm every day except Tuesday.
