Locals walking their four legged friends will now be able to ditch their dog poo in a sustainable way after the City of Greater Geraldton introduced fully compostable bags.

The new sustainable ‘green’ bags have been introduced at the City and Beresford Foreshore, and the rollout will continue in all other dispensers throughout Geraldton.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was just another way the City is working towards a more sustainable future.

“Geraldton is a very dog friendly City and on any given day we see a lot of people out walking their pooches in many of our public open spaces, especially our two beautiful Foreshores,” he said.

“There are a number of dog poo bag dispensers throughout the City and we encourage residents to pick up their dog poo and dispose of it appropriately.

“The new bags not only promote our message to clean up after your dog, but it also encourages our community to move away from single use plastics and to think and act in a more sustainable way.”

The newly introduced bags are made from torise high grade compostable resin and are fully compostable pursuant to Australia Standards.

People who don’t pick up after their dog can be fined up to $500.
