Geraldton Multipurpose Centre and Event Space
The West end is a popular gathering place and community playground for Geraldton’s residents. Annual Australia Day Celebrations see thousands of people congregating in the West End to take part in festivities and fireworks.
The Geraldton Multipurpose Centre consists of three buildings that are interconnected by a courtyard and verandah.
Two of the buildings are home to TS Morrow and the Geraldton and Districts Offshore Fishing Club. The buildings feature office spaces, classroom facilities and storage space for these organisations to use and share.
The third building features a function room with breathtaking ocean views available to the community for hire.
The facility also includes an outdoor events area that features a stage, tiered seating and public open space for community events such as the Australia Day celebrations.
The design of the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre is the result of extensive consultation with members of the community, as well as the various organisations utilising the space.
The overall cost for the project was approximately $8.4 million with the City contributing $3,217,000 towards design and construction of the facility.
Construction of the Facility was awarded to FIRM Construction, a WA based company with experience in the construction of civic buildings, schools, offices and industrial projects. Nine local contractors provided products and building services on the project.
The project was jointly funded with Regional Development Australia providing $3,170,000 in grant funding for the construction of the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre; and the Youth Precinct and Event Space receiving $1million in grant funding from both Lotterywest and Regional Development Australia. In total, the City’s has received $5.17million for the projects.
