Durlacher Street closure for roundabout construction

published on Friday, 16 October 2020 at 9:01:06 AM

The City of Greater Geraldton wishes to advise construction of the Durlacher and Maitland Street Roundabout will begin on Monday 19 October 2020.

To ensure community safety during the works which will take until early January 2021 to complete, Durlacher Street will be closed between Waldeck Street and the west side of the Maitland Street T-intersection.

During construction a one-way detour for light vehicles only such as cars, utes and motorbikes will be in place from Durlacher Street to Maitland Street via the QEII carpark.

The following changes to traffic management on Maitland Street will also come into effect on Monday 19 October 2020.

  • Maitland Street from Cathedral Avenue to Durlacher Street will be open to local traffic only.
  • Access to St Francis Xavier Primary School will still be available via Maitland Street.
  • A dedicated school drop zone will be located on Maitland Street across from the Bishop’s House.
  • The Maitland Street entrance to the QEII carpark will be closed.
  • Access to the Centacare carpark will be available via a temporary entrance from Maitland Street as the Durlacher entrance is closed.

To ensure QEII Centre facility users have adequate parking during the works:

  • The QEII carpark will be reserved for QEII users only. Access to the carpark will be from Durlacher Street only.
  • Additional parking for facility users only will be available on the grassed area located behind the QEII building. Access to this area is from Durlacher Street.

Members of the community are requested to exercise caution and obey all warning signs and directions from authorised City personnel and contractors.

The City apologises for any inconvenience the works may cause and asks for your patience during the construction of the roundabout.
