WoW Fest expands with Perth Symphony Orchestra

Perth Symphony Orchestra (PSO) aren’t your usual orchestra. They play everything from Mozart to Metallica and Britney Spears to Beethoven. They get people jumping, crowds singing and are set to do the same at this year’s WoW Fest.

The massive bolster to the event will allow the public to revel in PSO’s 20-piece symphony orchestra and also participate in two free workshops on the Geraldton Foreshore.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said he was absolutely pumped.

“PSO add another layer of excitement and entertainment to what is already a massive WoW Fest,” he said.

“The Queens Park Theatre (QPT) would usually host this show but we decided to bring the performance outdoors for all to enjoy.

“I’m delighted we could make this happen and also host two free workshops that focus on singing and instrument use.”

PSO’s performance at WoW Fest will be presented by the QPT on Sunday 12 April and is part of a goal to make theatre accessible to new audiences.

Abba, AC/DC, Daryl Braithwaite, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Sting and Queen are just some of the musicians the orchestra have performed hits from since launching in 2011.

Playing next to the beach will also be a change from the sheds, warehouses, art deco cinemas, aeroplane hangars, parks and foyers PSO can usually be found making melodies in.

The orchestra’s visit to Geraldton is made possible by the QPT through Raise the Roof Funding from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

More information about PSO’s free workshops as well as their performance will be available closer to Sunday 12 April via www.wowfest.com.au
