Catching fresh crayfish, seeing the Pink Lake and Abrolhos Islands from above as well as visiting a local farm are just some of the experiences officials from Linfen City enjoyed whilst visiting Geraldton earlier this month.

The Chinese delegation and City of Greater Geraldton stakeholders celebrated the launch of China Connect, which is a new website that promotes the region and enables businesses to undertake bilateral trade and commerce in both Geraldton and China.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was made possible by a lot of collaboration.

“A big congratulations to everyone who helped deliver this project that will allow local businesses access to the China market and vice-versa,” he said.

“China Connect removes language, cultural and technology barriers between the two locations because there is a website specifically for Mandarin users and another website for English users.

“It is the first of its kind in local government across the nation and something that we should be exceptionally proud of and motivated about.”

China Connect builds on the strong relationship and partnership the City of Greater Geraldton have with Linfen City.

Linfen City Deputy Mayor Qing Chang said that Linfen City values the relationship the two government bodies have and the opportunity to collaborate once again.

“We have been exchanging government and business delegations and working together in the tourism and trade development space since 2015,” he said.

“This website has great significance in the Midwest as well as the Shanxi Province and we’re delighted we can create more opportunities through China Connect.”

While the delegation visited Geraldton they were able to experience some of the region’s natural attractions.

China Connect has been made possible thanks to the City of Greater Geraldton, Linfen City, State Government’s Royalties for Regions Regional Grants Scheme and the Midwest Development Commission.
