West Australians will get an insight into the state’s best places to windsurf and kitesurf following the release of two high-energy videos.
The punchy five-minute productions feature iconic surfing locations in the Midwest as well as the esteemed athletes who travel all over the globe to ride them.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the films were a collaborative effort.
“It’s great that we have been able to work with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries as well as successful contractors Two Goat Media on the production of these epic videos,” he said.
“The Midwest is a mecca for sport and it’s not just limited to land-based activities – our coastline is brimming with spots where windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing goes off.
“I hope more West Aussies are tempted to explore their home state based on this high energy, saltwater infused campaign.”
Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation Regional Officer Simon Barras said the Midwest is brimming with locations for water sports.
“We’re really pumped about the videos because it showcases the international athletes who travel far and wide to access our waves,” he said.
“Our conditions are first-class and I’m glad that we have been able to work with the City and Two Goat Media to show them off.”
The City of Greater Geraldton, along with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) have been working alongside a group of stakeholders representing windsurfing and kitesurfing called the Wind and Water Cluster.
A direct outcome of the Geraldton Jobs and Growth Plan 2020-2023, developing opportunities from sports tourism with DLGSC was an action as part of the Tourism Cluster.
A Growth Plan vision was identified for Geraldton to be recognised as Australia's ultimate wind and water sports destination. As a result, the Wind and Water Cluster was formed and is made up of sporting enthusiasts facilitated by DLGSC.
Videos displaying the top-notch locations along the Australia’s Coral Coast were a high priority for the group, with many around the globe being able to watch and plan a future trip.
Locations featured in the two videos include Coronation Beach, Point Moore and Sunset Beach.
The City has supported the initiatives of the Wind and Water group by sponsoring local windsurfing identity Jaeger Stone during his international competitions and the National Wave Sailing Titles in November 2018.
The group is working with the Geraldton Yacht Club to attract funding to bring the Professional Windsurfing Association's International competition to Geraldton in 2021.
The windsurfing and kitesurfing videos are joint funded by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and the City of Greater Geraldton, and are filmed and edited by local company Two Goat Media.
