Crossing the boundaries of art and community, spaced 2: future recall is a new exhibition coming to Geraldton Regional Art Gallery this month and invites you to rediscover regional Western Australia from the viewpoint of artists.
The exhibition draws together works made by Australian and overseas artists who lived and worked for extended periods in rural and remote communities.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the exhibition featured sculptures, photos, paintings, video and more.
“spaced 2: future recall is a unique exhibition, which features a range of different artworks including sculpture, photography, painting, installation, video and digital media,” he said.
“The exhibition explores how communities create new visions of their present and future.
“It’s a thought-provoking installation and exhibits well alongside Genesis – a showcase of artworks from the best and brightest graduating visual art students in Geraldton.”
Genesis will be on display at the same time and includes artworks from students in years 7 to 12 at Nagle Catholic College, Geraldton Grammar School, Geraldton Senior College and John Willcock College.
The annual exhibition displays what the region’s youth are thinking and feeling, and has showcased at the Gallery for a number of years now.
“Both the Art Gallery and the City are proud to display Genesis as it celebrates and fosters the influential role visual arts play in the development of identities in our community,” Mayor Van Styn added.
spaced 2: future recall and Genesis will open on Friday 30 November at 6pm. The following day, artist Pia Lanzinger will be conducting an artist talk at 10.30am.
Both exhibitions will be on display at the Gallery until Friday 1 February 2019.
