There Were Moments of Transformation is a stunning exhibition of 40 works from the Art Gallery of Western Australia’s State Art Collection that opens this Friday night at Geraldton Regional Art Gallery (GRAG).
The artworks explore transformation and change through the media of video, jewellery, glass, ceramics and sculpture.
A Sorrowful Act: The Wreck of the Zeewijk launches on the same night and derives from a broader investigation within Dr Drew Pettifer’s work, to unearth hidden queer histories through archival art practices.
In photographs, video, audio and installation, this exhibition reviews our maritime past to challenge and assist contemporary society to rethink social history.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn encouraged those interested in attending to RSVP.
“We are delighted to share some of Western Australia’s most prized visual art at the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery,” he said.
“Creativity and expression play an important role in our community, and the two exhibitions give visitors and locals the chance to view firsthand these powerful shows in Geraldton.
“Art brings people together and there’s a variety of events happening at GRAG over the weekend that will certainly be doing that.”
There Were Moments of Transformation and A Sorrowful Act: The Wreck of the Zeewijk launch at GRAG this Friday 30 April at 6pm. The exhibitions run until 18 June.

Earlier in the day at 4pm, Dr Drew Pettifer will be conducting a free exhibition walk-through of the exhibition for Geraldton youth ahead of the opening event. It will provide them with a platform to ask questions and learn more about the content of the exhibition.
