Swim clubs from across the state will make their way to the Geraldton Aquarena this weekend for the annual Sunsmart Country Pennants Swimming Championship.

Close to 2,000 visitors are expected to arrive in Geraldton for the event that sees regional swim clubs race for the title.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn looked forward to hosting the event.

“We have a big sports community here in Geraldton and being able to hold the 2020 Sunsmart Country Pennants Swimming Championship is a massive coup,” he said.

“Geraldton last hosted the event in 2003 so it’s great to be able to welcome it back and on a long weekend too.

“We hope that the visitors are able to get out and about in Geraldton and the Midwest to experience what we have on offer here – great facilities, eateries, businesses, weather and natural attractions.”

The Sunsmart Country Pennants Swimming Championship kicks off on Saturday 29 February to Sunday 1 March.

It is the biggest swimming event of the year bringing clubs from as far as Albany, Kalgoorlie and Broome together.
