Those who consistently go above and beyond to provide support to people who require assistance were recognised yesterday as part of the Disability Support Awards.

The Awards coincided with the International Day of People with Disability, and acknowledged both individuals and organisations making a positive difference in the community.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn congratulated all of the winners as well as those who were nominated.

“We have so many people and businesses in the Midwest choosing to spend their time and efforts helping others, which is just outstanding,” he said.

“A huge congratulations to the six winners as well as all of the nominees.

“We look forward to bringing the awards back next year and continuing to support and recognise those who go about their day helping others.”

The following individuals and organisations were awarded on the day:

  • Mayoral Award – Support Worker of the Year – Peta Harris
  • APM Award – Excellence in Customer Service in a Disability Agency – Shelley Cheasman
  • Forrest Personnel Award – Disability Service Provider of the Year – ACTIV Industries
  • CRTAFE Award – Care and Support in the Home – Andrew and Tania Littely
  • Real Futures Award – Disability Advocate of the Year – Linda Moore
  • MWCCI Award – Employer of the Year – Ngala Midwest and Gascoyne

Recipients were selected by a panel of judges including Richard Sykes, Natalie Nelmes, Richard Malacari, Paul Barnett and Barbara Blayney. The winners were acknowledged for their contributions at an event held at the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre.

The City of Greater Geraldton would like to thank all those involved in this year’s event as well as those who took the time to nominate and help make the event such a success.
