Kart drivers, BMX riders and soccer players will soon be training and competing at improved sporting facilities having secured grant funding from the State Government’s Community Sporting & Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) to improve their club infrastructure.

CSRFF grants are available as one-third funding contributions from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) with the remaining two-thirds of project costs equally shared by the applicant and the City.

The Midwest Kart Club will receive $22,000 to renew the surface of their racing track whilst applications for $20,973 and $25,300 to replace the existing metal halide flood light luminaries with energy efficient LEDS at Woorree Park BMX Club track and Eighth Street West soccer field respectively have also been approved.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said local sporting clubs have been developing and improving their infrastructure with the assistance of the State’s CSRFF grants for a decade.

“Over the past ten years, Council has been supporting clubs who work hard to raise one-third of the funds needed to make improvements to their facilities which ultimately benefits the community,” he said.

“All three of these organisations provide important sports and recreation opportunities for people of all ages which underpins our community’s strong sporting culture.”

“Any sporting club that wants to increase participation in their particular sport or recreation by providing quality, sustainable facilities can apply to the CSRFF grant program.”

In March, Council approved Midwest Kart Club’s application for $42,305 along with $20,973 and $25,300 for replacement lighting at Woorree Park BMX track and the Eighth Street West soccer grounds.
