Get ready to embrace the Christmas spirit while helping children’s charity Variety by joining in this year’s ‘Variety Santa Walk’ as part of Christmas on the Terrace.
The joint initiative will be a sight to see as hundreds of people dressed as Santa, make the journey down Marine Terrace during the City of Greater Geraldton’s annual Christmas on the Terrace event to raise money for kids in need.
Mayor Shane Van Styn said the collaboration between the City and Variety was the perfect combination.
“Christmas on the Terrace is such a huge event in the community’s calendar and it makes sense that we would team up with Variety for the Variety Santa Walk,” he said.
“We know how much the community love and embrace Christmas on the Terrace and I hope they will come on board by joining in this walk.
“It’s for a great cause and you can also enjoy the festivities of the event while you’re down there.”
The dressed-up Santas will form a procession that will follow Mr and Mrs Claus on their sleigh through the Terrace.
Variety’s Regional Coordinator Jan Ajduk said they jumped at the chance to partner with the City for the event.
“We do this walk every year on the Foreshore but we thought what better event to team up with than Christmas on the Terrace,” she said.
“People may remember it being called the ‘Santa Fun Run’ but we have changed the name because people thought they had to run.
“This isn’t the case at all. We would love as many people to come on down, join in, put on a Santa costume and help us raise money for others in need around the festive season.”
The Variety Santa Walk is open to all ages and will coincide with Christmas on the Terrace on Thursday 6 December at 6pm from Edith Cowan Square.
The cost to register is $5 which includes your Santa suit. To register call Jan on 0408 923 205 or email midwest@varietywa.org.au
