Get ready Geraldton! Rocks Laneway will be revealed next month and you’re invited to have the very first look!
On Friday 20 September, the brand new Rocks Laneway project will be complete and it will be revealed to the community for the very first time.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn described the Rocks Laneway transformation as “epic”.
“This is going to be the very first time we get to view the whole Rocks project completed in its entirety, and I think we’re all going to be absolutely blown away,” he said.
“Rocks is such a focal point in our CBD and we are going to take a lot of pride in showcasing this to the community.
“The grand reveal will be a moment in our history you won’t want to miss.
“There will be entertainment galore, fun for the little ones, lots of history, art elements and our local businesses will stay open for the occasion,” he added.
To mark the opening, there will be an official ‘light switch flick’ which will illuminate the Ghost Office to the public for the very first time.
There will be various entertainers scattered throughout the laneway with elements of the area’s history, a scavenger hunt for the kids as well as local businesses in the vicinity open for the occasion.
Community members will get a first look at all of the Rocks elements including the Lightbox Gallery featuring Yamaji Art, the Town Square and Ghost Office, as well as the metagraphic and of course, the transformed former Rocks building into a public open space.
Geraldton Regional Art Gallery will open their doors for the event with Geraldton Camera Club’s FOCUS exhibition on display as well as an exhibition by Geraldton local Bruce Bradfield and the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2019. A Rock Painting activity for kids will also be on offer.
The Geraldton Regional Library will take the community back through time with an outdoor heritage exhibition in the Art Gallery Park.
“This event is exactly what Rocks Laneway is all about,” Mayor Van Styn added.
“The community will be able to make their way through the area which provides a vital connection from the Foreshore, through Marine Terrace and onto the Art Gallery.
“This is all about stimulating our CBD and local business, and we look forward to businesses opening on the night to see the full potential of the new Rocks development.”
