Reminder to wash fruit and vegetables

Due to the recent listeria outbreak in Australia, the City of Greater Geraldton would like to remind the community of the importance of washing fruit and vegetables before cutting and eating.

Fruit and vegetables can be exposed to bacteria, such as salmonella and listeria, present in the soil while growing or during the handling of the produce.

This bacteria can be easily removed by thoroughly washing produce with clean water.

Pregnant women, older adults, young children and individuals with weakened immune systems are at greater risk of infection.
