National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is almost here and this year’s theme ‘More than a word, Reconciliation takes action’ is all about Australians making impactful social change.
Events are happening throughout Geraldton as well as online from Wednesday 26 May to Thursday 3 June, and most of them are free.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said everyone has a role to play in reconciliation.
“We are taking action and are currently reviewing of our Reconciliation Action Plan so we can achieve fairness and justice for all members of our community,” he said.
“Let’s come together and help spread the word of what’s happening locally, state-wide and nationally to make positive change.”
Events start locally on Wednesday 26 May with Bundiyarra Aboriginal Corporation’s National Sorry Day event from 10am – 12.30pm. There will be local entertainment, special guest speakers plus free food.
Next up on Friday 28 May is a National Reconciliation Week 2021 Walk organised by the Department of Justice in collaboration with many partners. Those wanting to get involved are encouraged to meet at the Jaffle Shack on Geraldton Foreshore Drive at 9.45am.
GRAMS and the Museum of Geraldton are hosting a National Reconciliation Week Morning Tea on Tuesday 1 June at the Museum of Geraldton. The event goes from 10am – 11.30am.
