Those who are yet to have experienced the RAC Intellibus® will be pleased to know that the driverless technology experience is expanding in Geraldton until early December!

The RAC Intellibus® has been a popular addition in the CBD since launching in September, with over 1,370 registrations and 627.2kms travelled.

It will now stay in Geraldton until Thursday 10 December allowing members of the community and visitors to experience the future in the Midwest.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said he was delighted about the program’s expansion.

“You just need to visit the booking link and speak to people in town to see how popular the RAC Intellibus® is,” he said.

“It’s been booked out weeks in advance, which demonstrates how eager and excited people are to experience the future right here in Geraldton.

“Even more people will be able to experience the RAC Intellibus® now and also see the sights of our vibrant and urban CBD.”

The RAC Intellibus® was to conclude in Geraldton on Sunday 8 November and will now continue in line with the RAC Imagine Program – an initiative teaching youngsters about the changing nature of transport, mobility and road safety.

RAC General Manager Public Policy and Mobility Anne Still said it’s been fantastic to see the experience so popular amongst the local community.

“We’re very excited to be able to offer additional rides on our RAC Intellibus® in response to the overwhelming number of bookings we’ve received since we launched in Geraldton in September,” she said.

“Since then, nearly 800 passengers have been on board and we’ve completed nearly 200 trips along the Geraldton Foreshore — including a significant milestone in navigating more than 2,000 roundabouts.

“By increasing the number of rides in Geraldton, we hope more Western Australians will hop on board and experience the technology first-hand, for a glimpse into the future of safer, more sustainable and connected transport.”

Since commencing in Geraldton, the RAC Intellibus® has completed 178 trips through the CBD carrying 620 passengers.

With the demonstration extension, members of the public will now be able to hop aboard on Tuesday to Friday from 1pm to 3pm and Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
