Buzzing into the Queens Park Theatre (QPT) this month is a film about the hardworking bee and local beekeepers are encouraging members of the community to attend.

The Pollinators is a documentary with a “sting in its tail” that showcases how the yellow and black critters help supply food across the globe and the threats they are facing.

Our own City of Greater Geraldton recent convert and avid apiarist Chief Executive Officer Ross McKim said it would be an informative and enjoyable night out.

“We all know bees produce honey but they also contribute to one out of every three bites of food we eat,” he said.

The Pollinators has been causing a stir across the world and it’s great that we’re able to bring the documentary to our premiere entertainment venue.

“I hope the film gets people thinking twice about these incredible insects, and also supports and raises awareness of our local beekeepers.”

Local beekeeper and owner of Coastal Bees Kevin Flynn looked forward to watching the documentary.

“It’s really important that we understand how essential bees are to the environment and the food we eat,” he said.

“I don’t think many understand the connection between bees and their food and I hope this documentary sheds some insights on the link.

“We need to conserve bees and protect their future.”

The Pollinators follows the lives of professional beekeepers in America who move their hives across the country to pollinate various food crops. The film also highlights the challenges the insects face and their importance in the food industry.

You can catch The Pollinators at the QPT’s outdoor amphitheatre on Saturday 22 February at 7.30pm. Tickets are just $15 per person and is an all ages event.
