Get up close and personal with RAAF Hawk jets and PC21 training craft when Geraldton Airport throws open the tarmac to the public to celebrate 100 years of the Royal Australian Air Force.

The City of Greater Geraldton has partnered with the RAAF and Geraldton City RSL to put together a special event at Geraldton Airport celebrating the history and achievements of this great organisation.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn was proud to announce the special event.

“RAAF has a long history not only with serving and protecting Australia, but it also has a special connection to Geraldton,” he said.

“From hosting the No. 4 Service Flying Training School from 1941 to 1944, to today where the War Cemetery pays respects to 42 RAAF personnel who gave their lives for this country, our history with the Royal Australian Air Force is rich.

“We are honoured to be able to help RAAF celebrate 100 years of excellence right here in Geraldton.”

The Geraldton Airport open session will feature a static display of an RAAF PC21 and Hawk aircraft that will be on display.

A display of RAAF history will also be on show, including photos and memorabilia from the collections of the Geraldton Regional Library, the Geraldton City RSL and the Australian War Memorial.

This free, all ages event is set to take place from 12pm until 4pm on Thursday 20 May.
