The Mullewa Agriculture Show (Mullewa Ag Show) will return bigger and better next year thanks to a major funding boost from the Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment.

The injection of $333,820 will allow for an upgraded toilet block making it accessible and compliant, improved lighting facilities, new roofs as well as resurfaced footpaths and parking bays at the Mullewa Recreation Centre.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was a huge win.

“Congratulations to the coordinators of the iconic event, the Mullewa Agriculture Society, for securing this funding and the Australian Government for their generous support,” he said.

“The Mullewa Ag Show attracts thousands from across the region and state, and I can see those numbers growing thanks to the venue upgrades that this booster will allow.

“Ag shows do so much for regional communities, and we look forward to welcoming back Mullewa’s next year and for it to be another great success.”

The Mullewa Ag Show Secretary Julie Freeman said they were very excited about the grant.

“It will allow for much needed upgrades and maintenance at the Mullewa Recreation Centre which will benefit the whole community for years to come,” she said.

“We would like to thank the City of Greater Geraldton staff, especially the Mullewa District Office, for the support and assistance they gave us in developing the project and the application.

“This is another great example of what happens when local government and not-for-profit groups work together.”

The funding is made possible through the Department’s Regional Agricultural Show Development Grants Program that sees $20 million distributed over two years to support agricultural shows across the country.

The program provides grants of up to $500,000 to eligible regional show societies and the funding can be used to repair, upgrade, build or buy showground infrastructure or attractions.

Due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the 2020 Mullewa Ag Show has been cancelled due to restrictions, however it will take place in 2021 on Saturday 28 August.
