More flights for Geraldton travellers with Qantas

There will now be flights in and out of Geraldton from Perth on a Tuesday morning with Qantas recently announcing new scheduled services.

After Virgin recently decreased the number of flights from Geraldton, QantasLink has increased their services in order to meet the demand and boost connectivity for Geraldton.

QantasLink’s Tuesday morning flights will begin on 30 April with a 7am flight from Perth to Geraldton and a returning flight from Geraldton to Perth departing at 8:40am.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was important that flight services remained consistent and reliable for those looking to travel in and out of Geraldton.

“It was a blow for us when services reduced in and out of Geraldton as it lowers the options and opportunities for people to travel to here,” he said.

“As a regional capital, we are cementing ourselves as a destination of choice and we want to have the necessary options for people to fly in and out of Geraldton.

“Not just for tourists, but also for people travelling for business or those who may be receiving healthcare in Perth.

“This is a great outcome for Geraldton and we thank Qantas for stepping in to meet the demand and offer more services for Geraldton passengers,” he added.

Qantas Executive Manager Sales & Distribution Igor Kwiatkowski said the additional flights created more options for Geraldton travellers.

“We’ve responded to feedback from our customers and the Geraldton community by adding flights on Tuesdays when we know people want to travel,” he said.

“The new Tuesday return service also reinforces our commitment to improving connectivity for communities through air travel in regional Australia.”

With the new flights, Qantas will operate a total of 24 flights each week between Geraldton and Perth with its Fokker F100 aircraft.

With grant funding support from the Federal and State Governments, the Geraldton Airport is currently receiving a $24 million capacity upgrade which includes resurfacing of the runway and its extension to 2400m, and expansion of the main apron.

The airport runway extension will enable larger aircraft such as the Airbus A330 to land which will enable future international tourism development and airfreight export opportunities and provides an alternative landing site for the Perth Airport when diversions are necessary.

Completion of works is expected in July 2019.
