Today marks the start of National Road Safety Week and people are encouraged to pledge to drive safe so others can survive.
An initiative by Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group, National Road Safety Week honours those lost on roads, and pledges to make the roads safer for everyone.
Every year, more than 1200 people are killed and 35,000 seriously injured on Australian roads.
Chairperson of the Geraldton Roadwise Committee, Mid West Industrial Road Safety Alliance and City of Greater Geraldton Councillor Bob Hall said road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
“I’d really encourage everyone to make the pledge and make a conscious effort to drive safer on our roads,” he said.
“It is everyone’s role to educate and spread the road safety message so I would encourage everyone to tell their mates, family members and work colleagues to stay safe on the road.”
National Road Safety Week runs from 6 May to 12 May.
RoadWise is setting up road safety pledge displays at the Geraldton Visitor Centre, Geraldton Civic Centre, Greenough Visitor Centre Café, Mullewa CRC and Kalbarri Visitor Centre.
As part of the campaign, there is a Uniden rear dash camera prize up for grabs. All you have to do is fill out an entry form located at one of the pledge displays.
The prize will be drawn on Wednesday 15 May.
