Local community members and businesses who provide outstanding assistance and support to people with a disability were recognised and thanked at a ceremony last week.

Coinciding with International Day of People with Disability, the City of Greater Geraldton’s annual Disability Support Awards acknowledged individuals and organisations making a positive difference in the community.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said all nominees and winners had made big contributions and congratulated all involved.

“There are so many businesses and community members in the Midwest who have and continue to have such big impacts on people’s lives,” he said.

“For all their constant dedication, support and selflessness – we thank them.

“The Disability Support Awards are a great way to say thank you and I’d encourage people to keep in mind those who go above and beyond to provide support to people who require assistance when the nominations open next year.”

The winners of last week’s Awards are as follows:

-MWCCI Business of the Year - G Force Contracting

-Real Futures Disability Advocate – Zane D’Mello

-Forrest Disability Service Provider – Midwest Community Living Association

-CRTafe Care and Support in the Home – Clara Harris

-APM Customer Service – ATLAS Leisure Buddies

-Mayoral Support Worker – Sue (Sophia) Jones

Recipients were selected by a panel of judges and winners were acknowledged at a ceremony at the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre.

The City would like to thank all those involved in this year’s event as well as those who took the time to nominate and help make the event such a success.
