Community projects valued at more than $310,000 will be going ahead in the coming months as the City of Greater Geraldton announces the recipients of Round 20 Community Grants.

A total of 12 local community and sporting groups have secured $67,592 in grant funding to assist with the delivery of local festivals, competitions, education programs and facility upgrades.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the Community Grants Program provides an important opportunity for the community to access additional financial support to deliver much needed programs or projects.

“Community groups and not-for-profit organisations work at a grassroots level and have an understanding of what the community wants and needs,” he said.

“Their strong ties into the community also make them well-positioned to develop and deliver projects, programs and events that contribute positively to our quality of life whilst adding vibrancy to our City region.

“A big congratulations to all of the successful groups.”

Some of the projects funded in Round 20 of the Community Grants Program include lighting upgrades to the Tarcoola Park Tennis Club, Bundiyarra workshop upgrades, Sun City Care’s Wangalgu Viability Project and Desert Blue Connect’s Project – Interrupt!

The 2019 Harmony Festival, Geraldton Lobster Pot Regatta, Geraldton Board Riders Junior Development Club’s Interclub Surf Competition as well as Geraldton Rugby Club’s 2019 season and championships also received a financial boost.

The City of Greater Geraldton’s Community Grants Program is offered twice a financial year with funding from $2,000 to $20,000 available for one off events, activities or programs.

The next round of Community Grants Program will be announced later this month.
