Dogs of all shapes, sizes and colours will be roaming the Post Office Lane Lightbox Gallery as William Upchurch’s exhibition ‘Dogs of our Foreshore’ takes over.
The series of canine portraits are from spontaneous encounters along the Geraldton Foreshore, and were drawn on the artist’s smart phone.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the exhibition would appeal to local dog lovers.
“I’m sure the Post Office Lane Lightbox Gallery will have even more people walking through given the amount of animal lovers we have locally,” he said.
“It’s impressive that William has drawn the artworks on his smart phone. His talents know no bounds, having previously secured the 2019 Midwest Art Prize Incite Security Midwest Artist Award for his painting on a swag canvas.
“I’m delighted that we’re able to provide opportunities for local artists to be seen through the transformation of Rocks Laneway.”
William Upchurch has received numerous accolades and in 2019 was crowned with the Midwest Art Prize Incite Security Midwest Artist Award and voted the winner of the Ian Blayney MLA People’s Choice Award.
In 2015, Upchurch secured the Midwest Art Prize Youth Award.
He also starred as a finalist in the 2018 Black Swan Prize for Portraiture, which is now known as the Lester Prize and took out the ‘Oils and Acrylic’ Award in the 2017 Kimberley Art Prize.
‘Dogs of our Foreshore’ will be on display in the Post Office Lane Lightbox Gallery from Thursday 10 December to Thursday 11 February 2021.
