The replacement of the Spalding Horse and Pony Club’s (SHPC) storage shed damaged during cyclone Seroja is one step closer after Council approved their application to the State Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).

The $21,654 project involves constructing a new 8m x 10m colour bond storage shed to store machinery, jump poles and training equipment now awaits the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries approval under the CSRFF funding program.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the program assists sporting clubs to develop and improve their infrastructure.

“The CSRFF funding program is open to all sporting clubs who want to improve the safety and quality of their facilities and increase participation their particular sport or recreation,” he said.

“Apart from providing a place for their machinery and equipment currently being stored in trailers, the new shed will enable the SHPC to host significant regional open and school events other than standard club meets.

“It will also enable Horsepower Midwest Group (Riding for the Disabled) to store their equipment and allow the group to expand their current programs to accommodate the ever increasing demand.

“The SHPC will be utilising the insurance payout they received for the damage to their storage shed to fund their portion of the project.”

CSRFF grants are offered as one-third funding contributions from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. The remaining two-thirds of project costs are equally shared by the applicant and the City.
