Musicians in the Midwest are being called upon to vie for the opportunity of a lifetime playing alongside The Veronicas and San Cisco as part of this year’s Wind on Water Festival.
The ‘WoW Factor’ competition will see one lucky musician or band rock out as the official opening act at the WoW Fest Concert on 22 April 2018.
The competition will run through social media, closing 19 March.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
“This is one of the biggest line-ups we have ever had in Geraldton and it could be someone’s big break,” he said.
“We have so much local talent here in the Midwest so I would encourage all those who are contemplating entering to take the plunge.
“It will be such an amazing opportunity for a local artist or band to get up there and shine in front of thousands of people!”
In addition to playing live at the concert, the winning band or musician will also be interviewed and have their songs played on SpiritFM 98.1, a feature in the ‘Sauce’ section of the Geraldton Guardian and the chance to get up close and personal with the concert whilst watching it side of stage.
Mayor Van Styn said the format of having a local band support bigger acts had proved popular in the past.
“We have seen the likes of local band The INKS open for Cold Chisel back in 2015 and that competition was a similar format,” he said.
“Local lads Alex The Kid also had the opportunity to play a set at the Triple J One Night Stand Gig in 2016 which really helped their music career.”
At least three quarters of the band must reside in Geraldton and the musician or band must have enough material for a 30 minute set.
