Five local artists have been selected to be part of the John Curtin Gallery’s Alternative Archive exhibition in Perth next year, which focuses on the many regional communities in the state.
Craig Allsop, Charmaine Green, Mark Smith, Ellen Norrish and Marianne Penberthy were selected following the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery’s Alternative Archive: Truths, Myths and Legends of the Midwest presentation in May.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn praised the artists.
“To be featured in one of the nation’s major art galleries is a massive coup and we should be very proud of these creatives as a region,” he said.
“Geraldton Regional Art Gallery presented their interpretation of the Alternative Archive brief earlier this year and it was a great showcase of our region’s qualities, characteristics and talents.
“Congratulations to Craig, Charmaine, Mark, Ellen and Marianne once again on their fantastic achievements.”
A total of 40 artists were selected from 13 regional exhibitions and will have their work on display at the John Curtin Gallery from Friday 15 May to Friday 5 July 2020.
The Alternative Archive was developed to be a series of group exhibitions delivered between February to October 2019 through “Connect to the Creative Grid”, an initiative of the Regional Arts Partnership Program.
