Geraldton is one-step closer to claiming the top holiday spot in the state after being named a finalist in the 2021 GWN7 Top Tourism Town Awards just this week.
Busselton, Dwellingup and Exmouth are some of the destinations vying for the accolade, which will be chosen by the public through online voting.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn asked the public to get behind Geraldton.
“We are thrilled to be named as finalists and have been dedicated to increasing tourism in our region for some time now,” he said.
“Let’s channel all our hometown pride into the online voting and spread the word about how fantastic Geraldton is near and far.
“I’m confident that we can win the GWN7 Top Tourism Town Award but we need everyone’s help.”
The Awards recognise and reward towns in Western Australia that demonstrate a strong commitment to encouraging tourism and increasing visitation to their destination.
Geraldton has been named a finalist in the ‘population over 5,000 people’ category and if successful, will secure a $25,000 television advertising package to market the destination.
There’s also something in it for the public – those who vote for their favourite destination will go in the running to win a $5,000 WA travel voucher or $500 to spend at any RAC Park or Resort.
Winners will be announced at the 2021 Perth Airport WA Regional Tourism Conference Dinner in Geraldton on Tuesday 4 May.
