Get your beach toys, towels and sunscreen ready because the City of Greater Geraldton is throwing a massive celebration this Australia Day and you’re invited!
For those celebrating in Mullewa, the local swimming pool is where all the fun and entertainment will take place. Enjoy free entry, a barbecue breakfast, giant yard games, slip ‘n’ slide, pool inflatables, music and entertainment.
Activities in Geraldton start bright and early with the popular Kids Beach Party, which will be followed by free yoga, surfing lessons, a vintage car display, APEX bucking bull competition and thong throwing challenge. In the afternoon head to the mainstage for live tunes from pop-funk rockers Jammit!
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the Geraldton Foreshore would be pumping with celebrations, activities and a great atmosphere.
“Australia Day is about coming together to celebrate our great nation and we are putting on a massive family-friendly celebration for everyone to enjoy,” he said.
“The Geraldton Foreshore will be centre stage for a long list of activities.
“Boutique markets, free yoga sessions, thong throwing competitions and live entertainment and music are just some of the fun things prepared for Friday 26 January.”
The City also welcomes 27 new Australians at the special Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony and later in the day the winners of the Australia Day Active Citizen of the Year Awards will be announced.
“Active citizens make a vital contribution to our community by making it inclusive, safe and progressive which is why the awards are so important, so we can recognise the tremendous efforts of our residents,” Mayor Van Styn added.
“I look forward to seeing everyone at the Foreshore and hope Australia Day celebrations are enjoyed sensibly.”
At 8.30pm the sky will be lit up with fireworks thanks to the generous support of Rigters Supermarkets.
The City of Greater Geraldton has teamed up with the Geraldton Police to ensure celebrations are safe, family-friendly and alcohol and smoke-free.
