The City of Greater Geraldton has been thrown a $1.3 million lifeline from the Federal Government to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor and Regional Capitals Alliance Chair Shane Van Styn said the funding is the first step towards recovering together from the COVID-19 health crisis.
“This is the first tangible lifeline the Federal Government has given to local governments during the pandemic and we are thankful for any financial assistance we can get,” he said.
“Providing funding to improve assets or build new infrastructure will help local councils across Australia to better manage any freezes on rates and charges they have had to make in response to falling revenues due to COVID-19 restrictions and related job losses.
“This funding, which has a buy local requirement, will kick start the recovery from the pandemic at the community level by keeping local contractors and people employed.”
The Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program is available to local governments across Australia to deliver projects that involve the construction, maintenance or improvements to council-owned assets that are accessible to the public.
