Everyday actions will be the focus of a new photography exhibition and those selected to participate will have their works featured in a unique outdoor setting next year.
An Ordinary Day celebrates the overlooked aspects of life in the Midwest such as running through the sprinkler on a hot day, going for a SUP at the beach or having a cuppa with a family member or friend.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the successful contributors would have their photo enlarged for all to see.
“A selection of participants will be chosen by a panel of judges to have their artworks in An Ordinary Day, which will be on display in the grassed area between the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery and Murchison Tavern,” he said.
“We’re looking for photos that represent another day in the Midwest and it’s up to the applicants to capture those organic moments that make life special and memorable.
“The community will also have the opportunity to vote for their favourite photo and the winner will receive a cash prize.”
Entries for An Ordinary Day are officially open and must be made before 4pm on Monday 3 December. Only 12 individuals will be selected to have their photo enlarged on a canvas structure spanning 2.5m x 2.5m.
Those who are selected will receive $500 for their image and the winner of the People’s Choice will be awarded $1,000. Members of the community will be able to vote for their favourite image via an electronic survey.
The exhibition will be on show from Saturday 9 February to Monday 22 April.
