Minister for Energy Bill Johnston MLA and Western Power have been invited to attend a public forum in Geraldton next month to listen and discuss the ongoing outages in the region.

Faulty pole tops, lines down, extended outages and continual power loss in Mullewa are just some of the issues that will be discussed at the public forum, and at a meeting with City of Greater Geraldton Executives.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said he hopes the visit provides results.

“We have already faced a number of faults this year and I strongly encourage our community to attend the public forum to voice their concerns,” he said.

“Just recently we had approximately 500 Mullewa residents and more than 1,700 people in Geraldton without power, which impacts local businesses and other resources heavily.

“I hope that Council and the community are able to work with the Minister and Western Power to find solutions for the region.

“Thank you to the Minister for also agreeing to come and meet everyone.”

Western Power visited Mullewa in April last year to discuss repeated power outages and electrical reliability.

The visit was well received by the community and resulted in much-needed answers and the deployment of a generator.

The public forum to discuss the most recent outages will be held at 5pm on Thursday 5 March at the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre.
