Durlacher Street upgrades continue

Upgrades to Durlacher Street are entering the next stage with the resurfacing of the busy thoroughfare between George and Chapman Roads set to begin at the end of the week.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said he was pleased to see the revitalisation of this part of the CBD continuing as planned.

“Revitalisation works began in November 2017 when the removal of the power poles and overhead power lines on Durlacher Street between Chapman Road and Sanford Street started,” he said.

“Works continued in April 2018 along this two block stretch of road when the old slab footpaths on both sides of Durlacher Street were replaced with concrete.

“Even though these works have already completely transformed the look and feel of the area, a fresh and much needed smoother road surface will certainly provide the finishing touch.”

Road resurfacing night works will begin on Friday 8 November 2019 and will take approximately two weeks to complete.  During the works, a total road closure will be in place from George Road to Chapman Road between 7pm-6am with detours and traffic management in place.  Businesses located in the area will remain open as usual.

Further upgrades planned for Durlacher Street include the construction of a roundabout at the Maitland Street Intersection.  The design and relocation of services have been included in the 2019/20 Budget with construction planned for next financial year. The estimated $800K project costs will be 75% funded by the State Government Black Spot Funding program.
