A top community priority to cycle along off road shared paths from Drummond Cove to Cape Burney has shifted into high gear following the appointment of a consultant to connect these outer suburbs to the existing path cycling network.

Engineering consultants Cardno, a company with more than 70 years’ civil engineering experience, will design the 4km long 2.5m wide off road shared path from Drummond Cove to Sunset Beach and complete a feasibility study and concept designs for a shared path from Cape Burney to Tarcoola Beach. Construction works will be managed by the City.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn thanked the State Government for supporting the projects with much needed funding.

“At the last election, the State Government recognised the importance of expanding the City’s cycling network and committed $4.3 million towards the two projects,” he said.

“Thanks to their generous funding, these shared paths have been fast tracked for delivery much earlier than expected.”

The Geraldton 2050 Cycling Strategy identifies the Drummond Cove to Sunset Beach shared path as a priority project in the Geraldton cycling network. The path will enable people living in Drummond Cove to commute safely to Sunset Beach and beyond.
