Cultures from all over the world will be celebrated this month when the Midwest Multicultural Association hosts Harmony Week celebrations on the picturesque Foreshore.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn urged the local community to join in on festivities which hold a very important message.

“Greater Geraldton is home to residents from over 50 nations, and this is something that we are very proud of,” he said.

“Harmony Week is the perfect opportunity for us to come together and celebrate inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone that calls the Midwest home.”

The event will take place on Saturday 24 March from 10am until 2pm at Stow Gardens on the Geraldton Foreshore.

The ever-popular Parade of Nations will return once again, and – led by the Geraldton City Band - will depart from the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre GMC Stage and make its way around the Youth Precinct before returning to Stow Gardens.

There will also be non-stop entertainment throughout the duration of the event, food and gift stalls will be on-site, as well as activities and plenty of fun to be had for the whole family.

Midwest Multicultural Association President Tom Mwangi said that Harmony Week was about breaking down barriers.

“On the day it’s all about celebrating our rich cultural diversity and there shall be something for everyone. Our local families will enjoy a day of entertainment in a relaxed atmosphere,” he said.

“The weather should be great so looking forward to seeing and meeting lots of people.”

This event has been made possible by the generous support of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and the City of Greater Geraldton, as well as the Water Corporation and Geraldton-Greenough Farmers Market.
