The blue print for the future development of the City’s cycling network has been given the green light with Council adopting the Geraldton 2050 Cycling Strategy.
The Strategy provides long-term aspirational vision of a proposed cycling network that will better connect, enhance and extend the City’s current cycling infrastructure.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the community’s input at the early stages in the development of the strategy made all the difference.
“The City had a massive response to the community survey and drop in session where more than 550 ideas on how to improve cycling infrastructure in the City region were shared with the City,” he said.
“Thanks to the community, we now have a strategy in place which includes a five year action plan that will inform and prioritise capital investment in cycling projects whilst increasing our eligibility to attract grant funding to get projects done.”
The City has already received $20,000 in grant funding from the 2018/19 Regional Bicycle Network Local Governments Grants Program to undertake a feasibility study for cycle infrastructure to connect Sunset Beach and Drummond Cove.
