If you like being outdoors, are passionate about plants and don’t mind getting dirt under your fingernails becoming a Community Nursery volunteer might be just what you’re looking for.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn encouraged residents of all ages who are interested in greening our City to volunteer at the Community Nursery.
“Our 35 Community Nursery volunteers are amazing,” he said.
“This past year they grew 30,000 seedlings and cuttings which have since been planted in bushland and coastal reserves across the City region.
“This year they also planted an onsite seed orchard, which will make seed collection easier but also means more volunteers are needed to ensure the Nursery continues to produce the plants we need to keep greening our City.
“I’d like to extend an invitation to anyone, of any age interested in being part of this dedicated and passionate group of volunteers to join the team.”
Long-time Community Nursery volunteer Robyn Clements, who helps out twice a week at the facility during the busy season, said joining the team had turned out to be one of the best decisions she’s made.
“Years ago when I joined the team I was looking for something to keep me busy but it’s turned out so much better than that,” she said.
“Since then I have learned so much and the respect we all have one another just can’t be topped.
“The mateship and comradery within the group and with Jeanette Reynolds the City’s Nursery Officer is fantastic. I am so glad I volunteered.”
