An ANZAC Day service will take place at Wonthella Oval this year, providing community members the opportunity to pay their respects to those who fought for our country.

Presented by the Geraldton RSL Sub-Branch, ANZAC Day commemorations will take place on Sunday 25 April, with a 6am dawn service.

The City of Greater Geraldton delivers the event on behalf of the RSL and Mayor Shane Van Styn said while this years’ service would take place at a different location, it would still be a respectful and fitting tribute.

“ANZAC Day is a time of national significance, when we pay our respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom,” he said.

“Every year the service attracts thousands of people and we are sure this year will be no different.

“We encourage people to support our RSL and come together for this important commemoration.”

Those attending will not be required to register for tickets but people are asked to follow all COVID-related guidelines including social distancing and using the SafeWA app or sign in sheets at the event entrance.

Patrons are advised to arrive at Wonthella Oval between 5am and 5:30am and move onto the oval ready for a 5:45am parade with the service to commence at 6am. The main entrance will be via the oval entryway at Towns Football Club.

The grandstand will be made available to the public. Please maintain social distancing in your group bubbles and follow direction from Police and COVID marshals.

Parking will be available for the general public at Wonthella Oval and the surrounding Eighth Street precinct.

If you are part of the parade, a member of the RSL, or driving a service vehicle, please contact the RSL for more information on where to park. If you are a member of the RSL, part of the ANZAC Day parade, or wish to be seated alongside the RSL for the service please contact the Geraldton RSL.

If you have any accessibility requirements, in regards to parking or attendance at the event, please contact events@cgg.wa.gov.au to ensure your needs are met.

If you wish to lay a wreath, the RSL ask that you please lay a wreath at Birdwood House either before or after the service. Wreath layers for the service have already been allocated.

At the conclusion of the service, Geraldton City RSL members and all veterans together with their families are invited to return to Birdwood House for a gunfire breakfast and traditional ANZAC Day activities from 7:30am.

If you’re unable to attend the event, it will be livestreamed on the RSL and City’s Facebook pages.
