Community feedback sought for Heritage Strategy

Valuing and protecting Geraldton’s culture and history remains a top priority for the City of Greater Geraldton and community members are being asked for their feedback.

The City’s draft Heritage Strategy 2023-2028 has been aptly updated and is currently open for community consultation.

The Strategy seeks to highlight the importance of heritage in relation to the identity and character of the City.

It also provides guidance for the protection, conservation and enhancement of identified places of cultural heritage significance.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the Strategy plays a crucial role in preserving Geraldton’s rich culture.

“Heritage is something inherited from the past and valued enough today to leave for future generations,” he said.

“We know our community is extremely passionate about how we continue to protect our history, so we encourage locals to view the draft document and provide their feedback.”

Updates to the document provide an outline for heritage activities by the City for the next five years and considers existing policies and activities, as well as the current economic climate and available resources.
