A new bike repair station for cyclists has been installed at Midalias Beach on the Beresford Foreshore.

The fully equipped repair station features a range of tools including wrenches, screwdrivers, a tyre lever and a pedal wrench securely attached to retractable cables.

The station will enable bike riders to adjust tyre pressure and carry out basic bike repairs and maintenance while out riding their bikes.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn thanked the Geraldton Cycling Advocacy Group and Mid West Sports Federation (MWSF) who worked with City staff to identify the best place to install the State Government funded repair station.

“I’d like to thank the Geraldton Cycling Advocacy, established by the MWSF, for their dedication to promoting greater bike use in our City,” he said.

“I’d also like to thank the State Government and Lara Dalton MLA for funding the repair station.

“Having a handy repair and tune up area on one of most popular cycling paths in the City will certainly keep bikes rolling.”

MWSF Chair Mike Bowley said the station is part of a key strategy in the Sports Federation’s Geraldton Cycle Plan 2020-2030.

“This repair station is just one infrastructure project with a focus on improving cycle participation, culture and management. It comes from the ‘Towards a bike friendly Geraldton’ initiative developed by the Mid West Sports Federation in 2020,” he said.

“We are pleased to support the ongoing efforts of the Geraldton Cycle Advocacy Group.”

Member for Geraldton Lara Dalton MLA said the station is part of the State Government’s plan to encourage more cycling.

“Whether you ride for fitness or fun, there is nothing worse than a mechanical problem or flat tyre while out about on your bike, so knowing there is a centrally located, free repair station will be welcome news for all cyclists,” she said.

“The repair station is part of the McGowan Government’s long-term plan for cycling in our city, to encourage participation and remove obstacles to getting on your bike, like break downs.

“I want to acknowledge and thank the City of Greater Geraldton, the Midwest West Sports Federation and the Geraldton Cycling Advocacy Group for working together to find the best location for Geraldton’s first bike repair station.”
