Marine Terrace is about to get brighter with the installation of a new public art piece.

Replacing the current ‘3D installation’ which attracted a lot of attention when it was installed in November last year, the new piece will be painted over the existing one within the next month.

The 7.5m by 7.5m chequered design embraces the City’s tourism colours and elements.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the confusion about the previous design could be laid to rest and it was time to embrace a better and brighter graphic.

“This design is a lot brighter and will add vibrancy to our CBD as well as promote activation of the retail precinct,” he said.

“We’ve compromised with Main Roads WA to get this approved design over the line and we’re looking forward to seeing it installed.

“While it is a public art piece, it is still aimed to encourage drivers and cyclists to slow down on Marine Terrace.”

The design showcases Geraldton’s tourism ‘Take a Fresh Look’ brand which highlights iconic elements of the region.

The chosen design has been approved by Main Roads WA.

“Marine Terrace is continuing to be revitalised and we’ve seen the Rocks Laneway project transform the space and create a vital link from the Foreshore through to our retailers,” Mayor Van Styn added.

“Our ‘main strip’ holds a lot of sentiment to our local community and we want to continue to make this iconic space a safe and great place to be for locals and visitors.”

The project delivery team are currently in the process of getting quotes for the job and it is set to be completed by early April.
