City Services Update #1: Changes to facilities and programming

Community health and safety remains a top priority for the City of Greater Geraldton as the global Coronavirus outbreak continues to be monitored closely.

City of Greater Geraldton CEO Ross McKim said the City were monitoring the rapidly changing situation very closely and making necessary changes as needed.

With bans cancelling non-essential indoor gatherings over 100 people, the City wishes to advise there will be some changes to facilities, events and programming during this time.

The following is advised:

 

Geraldton Regional Art Gallery:

-Remaining open however all public events including Gallery floor talks and workshops have been temporarily cancelled.

 

Geraldton Regional Library:
-Remaining open however all public events including workshops, children’s activities such as Storytime and Rhymetime, book sales, book talks, school holiday activities, and all outreach services have been temporarily cancelled.

 

Queens Park Theatre:

-Closed from Wednesday 18 March until further notice.

-Friends of the QPT film Ti Presento Sofia scheduled for this Friday 20 March has also been cancelled.

Aquarena:

-Remaining open however limiting capacity at the facility to no more than 100 people.

-The Disco scheduled for this Saturday 21 March and all swimming carnivals have been cancelled.

Events:

-WoW Fest 2020 will not proceed as programmed.

 

The following events and programs have been cancelled:

-ANZAC Day (April 25)

-Sunset and Sunrise Yoga

-Mullewa Muster and Rodeo (Saturday 20 May)

-Sundays by the Sea

-The RAC Intellibus launch and experience in Geraldton has been postponed.

 

Geraldton Multipurpose Centre:

-Remaining open at this stage, however no new bookings are being made.

-Any immediate bookings of 100 or more have already been cancelled.

 

QEII Seniors and Community Centre:

-Programming at the QEII Seniors and Community Centre will be temporarily suspended starting Monday 30 March but the Centre will remain open.

Youth:

- The youth diversionary program ‘Friday Night Football’ has been postponed.

-Decisions around the next School Holiday Program will be made in the coming weeks.

Geraldton Voluntary Tour Guides:

-The daily 10:30am tours at the HMAS Sydney II Memorial and the 2pm Tuesday and Thursday tours of the Bill Sewell Complex have been suspended until 30 April 2020.

 

Rocks Laneway:

-City activation programming will be postponed.

 

The Visitor Centre, Civic Centre and Mullewa District Office will remain open as normal. The Geraldton Airport also remains open and patrons should contact airlines in regards to flight changes.

Ongoing announcements regarding City programs, shows and events will be released on the City’s website and social media platforms.

The Department of Health are the lead agency for the COVID-19 situation and people are advised to visit their website as a true and accurate source of information.
