Seniors in Geraldton will soon have access to more user-friendly businesses with the implementation of a new program from the City of Greater Geraldton.

The Senior User-Friendly Business (SUB) program supports and recognises senior user-friendly practices in local businesses.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said SUB was much needed in the community.

“With over 5,700 Geraldton residents over 65, and a steady stream of ‘grey nomads’ visiting our region, there is a need to support improved practices,” he said.

“I would encourage all local businesses to become a Senior User-Friendly Business and consider the areas of safety, comfort, visibility and clarity, and respect.

“Seniors are known to be loyal customers, so doing small things to ensure your business is user-friendly will have some very positive flow on effects.”

Before committing to the process of becoming a SUB, it is important that business participate in the City’s program.

After registering to join the program, there is a checklist of items to fulfil in the areas of safety, comfort, visibility and clarity, and respect, before being assessed and then declared Senior User-Friendly.

Once recognised in the SUB community, you can promote your business as a SUB and your business will be recognised in various outlets including a SUB directory, the QEII monthly newsletter, noticeboards along with a SUB sticker and media pack to promote your business’ new status.

The SUB program has been created by the City with an initial seed grant from the Government of Western Australia Department of Communities.
