Local artist Helen Ansell has coordinated a pop up shop in Mullewa every wildflower season for the past six years and this year is looking to be the biggest yet thanks to some new additions.

Homemade eats from MJ Cakes, barista coffee, sustainable clothing from Flax&Fleece and new artworks from Helen Ansell are just some of the delights happening under the Lesser Hall’s roof.

Act-Belong-Commit Community Art Workshops exploring colour theory and design principles are also in the pipeline as well as an exhibition from Mullewa Arts Development (MAD) celebrating the town’s 125th anniversary.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was great to see so much collaboration.

“Congratulations to Helen and team for creating such a welcoming and vibrant space for travellers and locals to come together,” he said.

“Mullewa has built a strong reputation for showcasing spectacular wildflowers to many visitors and having a pop up shop that allows people to spend more time in the area as well as celebrate and support locals is important in maintaining a healthy and connected community.

“If you’re looking for your next adventure in our state, make it in the Midwest.”

Local artist and coordinator of the pop up shop Helen Ansell said the space kept growing each year.

“I’m so pleased to collaborate with Flax&Fleece, MJ Cakes and the North Midlands Project on this year’s space,” she said.

“Both visitors and locals have been popping into the Lesser Hall to have a chat, grab a bite to eat and enjoy the arts and culture.

“The flowers in the region are also starting to bloom, so it’s definitely worth a drive out here this weekend.”

The pop up shop at Mullewa’s Lesser Hall opened on Saturday 1 August and is open every day from 9.30am – 3.30pm until Wednesday 30 September. The Lesser Hall is located on Maitland Road in Mullewa.

More information about the workshops as well as MAD’s exhibition is available on ‘Helen Ansell Pop Up Shop’ on Facebook.

This year’s efforts are supported by the North Midlands Project, Act-Belong-Commit and the City of Greater Geraldton.
