Bayly Street gets long awaited turning arrow

Turning right from Bayly Street onto Chapman Road is about to get a whole lot easier and safer with the installation of a traffic turning arrow at the intersection in mid March.

Main Roads Western Australia and the City of Greater Geraldton have been working together to identify a solution that will greatly improve traffic flow at the intersection.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said increased traffic at the intersection has resulted in impatient motorists driving unsafely.

“We have all seen drivers ignore the road rule to give way to vehicles turning left from Bayly Street onto Chapman Road just so they can get through the intersection before the traffic light turns red,” he said.

“Over the years, the behaviour of these drivers frustrated with long wait times to turn right onto Chapman Road has resulted in a lot of near misses and accidents.

“I am very pleased that Main Roads will finally be reconfiguring the traffic lights at the intersection to include a right turning arrow from Bayly Street onto Chapman Road.”

Works to reconfigure the traffic lights will be undertaken next week.
