Basketball program calls for volunteers

Late Night Basketball is back for another season and volunteers are needed to help youngsters shoot goals on and off the court.

The basketball competition is one of the City of Greater Geraldton’s most popular youth initiatives, providing participants with the opportunity to make new friends, shoot some hoops, enjoy a free dinner as well as participate in a life skills workshop.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn encouraged members of the community to get involved.

“Late Night Basketball has a great atmosphere and it’s a lot of fun to be part of,” he said.

“Members of the community can get involved by plating up dinner, umpiring, coordinating teams and logistics.

“Volunteering is a rewarding process, especially when you see all the kids having a great time and taking a break from what can be a difficult time.”

Late Night Basketball runs from June to mid-September between the hours of 7pm to 12am on a Friday. It forms part of the U-Turn Project, which is well known in the community for making a positive difference.

All volunteers will be required to apply for a Working with Children Check.
