Awards to recognise disability support

The City of Greater Geraldton has launched the inaugural Disability Support Awards to recognise people and organisations that provide the highest standard of support to people with disability.

As part of International Day of People with Disability – nominations are now open for the Awards which will take place on Monday 3 December.

Community groups, individuals, industry, organisations and agencies are being encouraged to nominate now to recognise the effort and achievement of all those who have an involvement with the disability sector.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was a great opportunity to reward those who make a big difference to the local disability services sector.

“There are so many selfless people out there making huge contributions to people with disabilities and the disability industry and this is a chance for them to be recognised,” he said.

“I encourage people to have a look at the award categories and nominate someone they think needs to be acknowledged.

“We’re aiming to host the awards annually so we hope the community embraces it with open arms.”

There are six award categories which include:

 

  • Mayoral Award – Support Worker of the Year
  • APM Award – Excellence in Customer Service in a Disability Agency
  • Forrest Personnel Award – Disability Service Provider of the Year
  • CRTAFE Award - Care and Support in the Home
  • Real Futures Award – Disability Advocate of the Year
  • MWCCI Award – Employer of the Year

Recipients will be selected from people and agencies who have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year, or given outstanding service within the local community over a number of years through active involvement.

Awards will be presented at the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre as part of International Day of People with Disability on Monday 3 December between 9.30 and 11.30am. Light refreshments will be provided.

Nominations close Monday 12 November.
