Art Prize returns to the Mid West

This week marks the return of the Mid West Art Prize and artists residing in Western Australia will be excited to learn that they can now enter.

Continually growing in popularity and prestige, the event to be held in 2019 has more than $28,000 in prize money across a number of award categories.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said he was excited for the return of the Mid West Art Prize.

“I’m delighted to see this biennial event return to GRAG and expect the competition and quality to be just as good, if not better than 2017,” he said.

“A huge thank you to our sponsors who continue to support the initiative and make it such an exciting prize pool.”

The 2019 Mid West Art Prize awards and prizes include:

  • City of Greater Geraldton Overall Award for Excellence $20,000
  • RedFM Youth Award $3,500
  • Rio Tinto Midwest Aboriginal Art Award $3,500
  • Ian Blayney MLA Local Member Award $1,500

 The City of Greater Geraldton Overall Award for Excellence is acquisitive as well as the Rio Tinto Midwest Aboriginal Art Award and RedFM Youth Award.

Artists who wish to submit an artwork must fill out an entry form, which is available for completion on the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery’s website. Entries can be made up until Friday 30 November and will incur a charge of $40 per entry.

The winners will be announced at the Mid West Art Prize Exhibition Opening on Saturday 16 February 2019.
