Fremantle Dockers legend Matthew Pavlich will make his way to Geraldton next week to inspire locals and help break down barriers about mental health at a free community workshop.

Long admired as one of the AFL’s biggest stars, the retired athlete hung up his boots after 353 games at the elite level and now focuses on sports commentating as well as raising awareness about mental health.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn encouraged the community to book tickets quick.

“We look forward to welcoming Matthew to Geraldton and know that tickets will go flying out the door as soon as people hear about this free opportunity to meet an AFL great,” he said.

“Over two in five Australians battle mental health conditions and this free workshop will help pump people up and have an honest conversation about anxiety, depression as well as other conditions.

“A huge thank you to WA Primary Health Alliance for their vital funding, which is allowing us to bring this AFL legend to Geraldton and talk about such an important topic.”

Mind Matters with Matthew Pavlich will take place on Friday 9 December at 6pm – 8pm at the Upper Hall of the QEII Seniors and Community Centre. There will be a 30-minute presentation, followed by a Q+A session and photo opportunity.

Only 400 tickets to this free event are available and RSVP is required by booking tickets here.

Once tickets sell-out, a waitlist will be available for up to 100 people to potentially attend.

In addition to the Mind Matters with Matthew Pavlich event, the City has coordinated a Mental Health Round with local cricket, lawn bowls and softball clubs. The clubs will wear arm bands and have signage around their grounds to raise awareness about mental health.

The City of Greater Geraldton thanks WA Primary Health Alliance for their support of this initiative.
